The Medical Coding Bootcamp is a 16-week, fully online, entry-level program designed to build the foundational skills needed for a career in the medical coding field. Delivered in partnership with our trusted educational partner, AAPC, the program covers essential topics such as medical terminology, anatomy, and coding principles aligned with industry standards. Graduates complete the program well-prepared to pursue the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam and take the next step toward a nationally recognized credential and career opportunities in medical coding. Registration for this program includes a CPC certification exam voucher.

This is an open enrollment program. No prior prerequisites or medical experience is required.

ONLINE - ASYNCHRONOUS

 For those who prefer to learn on their own schedule, within a timeframe.

For those who prefer both self guided instruction, plus live, instructor-led classes with more structure with deadlines.

- Live, instructor-led classes once a week for 2 hours on Thursday evenings from 6PM - 8PM.

About the Bootcamp

In 16 weeks, you will learn the skills needed to pass the AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification exam and start a career as a medical coder. The Medical Coding Bootcamp, offered by the Office of Professional and Continuing Studies at Loyola University New Orleans, in partnership with AAPC, is a 100% online bootcamp providing the principles of medical coding related to the three main code books: CPT®, ICD-10-CM Code Set and HCPCS Level II. Throughout the bootcamp, students will navigate the curriculum and engage in experiential learning modules. This program assures a broad knowledge in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for professional services and it is recommended for anyone preparing for a career in medical coding for a physician’s office or hospital. 

Upon completion of the course, students will earn a Certificate of Completion from Loyola University New Orleans, a respected credential that demonstrates your commitment to professional growth. Students will be prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to sit for the AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) exam—the industry standard for validating coding expertise and professional excellence. While the CPC® certification is awarded only upon passing the AAPC exam, Loyola’s program is designed to give you the comprehensive preparation and confidence to pursue certification successfully.

What is Medical Coding?

Medical coding is when healthcare professionals code medical records and healthcare documentation for billing, compliance, and insurance purposes. The role of medical coders is essential to ensuring great patient care and optimal revenue for healthcare organizations of every size and specialty. 

Certified medical coders are in-demand in the healthcare industry and can work in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies.

This course is recommended for anyone who is preparing for a career in medical coding for a physician’s office. This course assures a broad knowledge in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for professional services.

A Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) certification from AAPC is the industry’s official recognition of achievement, expertise, and judgment.

Upon completion of the course, students with be able to sit for the certification exam with AAPC and receive a CPC® Certification.

What is a CPC?

Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) is a certification awarded by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) to individuals who demonstrate expertise in medical coding. CPCs are trained professionals who accurately assign codes to medical procedures and services in order to ensure proper reimbursement from insurance companies. This certification is recognized nationwide and is highly sought after by employers in the healthcare industry.*

Bootcamp Fee

$4,800 includes the following:

Live Online | 100% Online

Self-Paced | 100% Online

The self-paced, asynchronous, online Medical Coding Bootcamp takes up to 16 weeks to complete, 3 optional 1:1's with the instructor, and guided deadlines. Registration opens in October 2025.

Workforce Innovation & Opportunities Act

Are you a job seeker? 

Have you recently been laid off from your job? Have you only been able to obtain part-time work? Have you been self-employed, but the economy or a natural disaster has put you out of business? Have you been dependent on the income of another family member and are no longer supported by that income; and are unemployed or underemployed?  

WIOA Training Funding

If you are unemployed or underemployed, you may qualify for the Workforce Innovation & Opportunities Act (WIOA) funding. In Louisiana, WIOA awards may cover tuition and courseware fees for qualifying individuals; award totals vary per Parish and individual application. Training programs are approved through the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), and individual WIOA applications are submitted and approved through the local Parish workforce offices. 

The Medical Coding Bootcamp is a LWC approved training program. 

How do I find out if I qualify?

To find out if you qualify for WIOA funding, you may contact your local workforce office or register on the Louisiana Workforce Commission HiRE website. JOB1 serves as the local workforce office for the New Orleans region. The application and approval process takes approximately 1 month. If you think you may be eligible for WIOA funding, we recommend that you start the application process 1-2 months prior to the start of the course.
