Professional Tour Guiding 2: Specialty Tours, Research, and Storytelling
New Instructor & Updated Course Description!
This course is for new and seasoned tour guides, as well as anyone interested in the rich and varied tourism offers. Learners will delve deeper into culinary/cocktail tours, swamp tours, plantation tours, folklore tours, working as a docent and more. We will learn techniques and resources to enhance your research to build a wider variety of tours.
Class sessions will consist of lectures, workshops, and guest speaker presentations from several areas in tourism. Learners will research information given on tours, learn 1 of 4 to differentiate between fact and factoid and give weekly reports in class as you build historic accuracy mixed with storytelling. The last class meeting is a field trip with a French Quarter walking tour.
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will receive a Loyola University New Orleans Certificate of Completion and 2.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Scholarship Opportunity
New Orleans Tourism and Cultural Fund has partnered with the Office of Professional and Continuing Studies (PACS) to provide limited, full and partial tuition scholarships to eligible applicants. Applications open at various dates for select tour guiding courses. Please join our mailing list for notifications when NOTCF scholarship applications open.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Aspiring or Licensed Tour Guide of New Orleans
- Demonstrates financial need
- Must attend all sessions and ensure sign-in is completed
- Must complete the mid-point and final surveys emailed from pacs@loyno.edu
