Money Management Experience

This course is intended for individuals who have no prior finance knowledge and who wish to learn about money management. Course content covers introduction and discussion of tools of finance. These include stocks, bonds, EFTs, and mutual funds. We also cover basic income strategies. The College of Business, Student Managed Investment Fund account is used to exemplify the content. This account has a balance of $1 million in real funds.

Loyola University New Orleans, College of Business has a Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) which has over $1,000,000 in real funds. SMIF had a total profit of over $100,000 for 2020.

This course is offered free to the general public.


Expected Student Course Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

• trade stocks

• trade bonds

• trade ETFs

• trade mutual funds

• trade simple income generating options

• maintain a simple investment portfolio


No prerequisite course. 

Students must have basic computer and Canvas skills to complete assignments, such as the ability to identify and click on buttons to access and navigate the course content, being able to find your course assignments, grades, and feedback in Canvas, and being able to add attachments, links, images, and submission of the assignments, etc.
